Rosso di Toscana, 'Pian del Ciampolo,' Montevertine 2021

Availability: In stock

90% Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo, 5% Colorino.

"You probably already know about Montevertine. It has been one of Tuscany's brightest stars for decades, on the forefront of every movement that has made the region what it is today. They stepped out of the consorzio because of their belief in Sangiovese, helping to create the Super-Tuscan movement. They have always sought to express their distinct Radda terroir, laying the foundation for today's growing interest in Chianti's varied crus (and especially in Radda!).

Vinification: Sangiovese with tiny amounts of Canaiolo and Colorino blended in, this is the basic red wine of the estate. It sees 18 months of aging in large barrel. The 1.5 hectare vineyard parcel was re-planted in 2003; the vineyards face east – northeast which produces a long growing season resulting in the complete maturation of the grapes and exceptional balance to this wine which reflects the classic Montevertine style marked by elegance and complexity.

Montevertine's Pian del Ciampolo bottling is made for earlier drinking. This is a delightfully lithe and light style of Sangiovese, with fresh red cherry fruit aromas, notes of red currants and anise. Lively fruit, balanced out by earthy tannins, this is what Sangiovese should always taste like."
