R Burgundy, Savigny-Les-Beaune Premier Cru, Pavelot, 'Aux Guettes', 2020

Availability: In stock

91-93 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a large 1.5 ha holding). This also very ripe yet avoids being over the top with its liqueur-like aromatic profile of spiced black cherry, cassis and sauvage hints. There is both excellent volume and freshness to the dense and, somewhat unusually, more refined medium weight flavors that tighten up on the youthfully austere, complex and lingering finale. Drink: 2032+. (Apr 2022)"

91-93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "The 2020 Savigny-lès-Beaune Aux Guettes 1er Cru has a taut and crisp bouquet with black cherries, touches of menthol and violet, opulent yet showing more delineation than some of Pavelot’s other cuvées. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannins counterbalanced by a fine bead of acidity, lightly spiced with a cohesive finish. Very fine. Drink: 2024-2040. (Dec 2021)"

92+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2020 Guettes from Hugues Pavelot is a fine bottle in the making, as the wine avoids those hints of sur maturité that can be found in the Bressandes and les Lavières. The bouquet is ripe, but pure and precise at the same time, offering up notes of cassis, dark berries, bitter chocolate, a beautiful base of soil tones, pigeon, vanillin oak and a touch of menthol in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with a sappy core of black fruit, lovely soil undertow, ripe, fine-grained tannins and a long, focused and complex finish. This is going to be lovely. 2033-2080. (Nov/Dec 2021)"
