Marie Rocher is producing some of the most lighthearted and enjoyable wine in France’s Loire valley. Before finding her way to winemaking, Rocher studied and worked on geography and environmental issues, living abroad in Southeast Asia and Africa. She also wrote about wine for years as a published author and dabbled in breadmaking, where she was particularly intrigued by the fermentation process. All of these pasts informed her decision to study with some of the best natural winemakers in France (René Mosse, Hervé Villemade, and Marcel and Marie Lapierre), ultimately creating her first vintage in 2018 and making her one of the most in-demand and promising up-and-comers to watch.
